Sophisticated spookiness

Although Halloween is just a few days away, it’s not too late to add a few inexpensive, decorative touches to your lair home.  The ideas in these photos are simple and fast to create.  Add a bevy of bats from backyard branches to your foyer table to bring the spirit of Halloween to your home.  Notice the cute candleholders?  All you need is paper and tape (attached to a candle holder or heat-proof glass you already have).  Of course, a basket of candies is more than just eye-candy.

I really like this one.  The white pumpkins (and if you can’t find these,  paint the usual orange ones with an off-white spray paint) are scrawled with a scraggly script (that, I can handle!) using a black marker.  Lining them up on the mantel with some ivy (especially if sprayed black) makes for a sophisticated and fun look.  An added bonus would be art  – such as the craggy and twisted black and white tree images.

I know plenty of people who enjoy decorating with scary themes such as  gory masks, gravestones, and bloody body parts – not me! Give me Halloween sophistication.
