Warm up your home for Fall

One of my favorite things to do when there is a change in the season is a seasonal home makeover.  Out go the lighter colors and textures and in come accessories that remind me of nature’s changes.  Of course, here in South Florida we don’t see a lot of leaves changing colors, so that’s even more of a reason to create a feeling of Fall indoors!

Where to start?

If you’re fortunate enough to have slip-covered furniture, create a cozy room by switching from summery, light fabrics to a chocolate brown or a shade of cranberry, gold, or pumpkin.  it’s easy to start with a neutral (such as brown) and layer on all the other fall shades by using pillows and throws.  Even if you don’t have a slipcover,  you can still layer in darker tones in your room to create a richer feel.   Another way to create richness is to add layers of texture.  Think nubby, chenille, velvet, and plush to get started.

Add touches of gold – like this mirror and the sunflowers below.  I also like the skirted side table.

Don’t forget to add candles or lanterns for a nice, warm glow in the evening.

Here’s another thought.  What about a nice wood bowl like the one above with fresh, crisp apples?

There’s nothing like multi-functional decorating!
