If you already have curtains but you want to jazz them up a bit, try what this season’s HGTV Design Star participant “Dan” did on this week’s show. Add a large “stripe” of fabric to simple, purchased drapes to add contrast and texture. Even if you don’t sew, there are other options such as fabric glue and iron-on tape.

Dan's Design: Jason Priestley's Nursery , Actor Jason Priestley and his wife Naomi are expecting their second child and asked for a Cape Cod-inspired nursery that can also serve as a toddler space. Working from the existing guest room, Dan created a California-beach-house nursery using a light palette, transitional furniture and artistic touches. The judges and the homeowners thought Dan's take on nautical nursery was spot on., After: Dan converted a guest bedroom into a California-beach-house nursery that pleased the homeowners and the judges. The mother-to-be said, "It's delicious." Genevieve said, "This is working on so many levels." Clive said, "You designed an absolutely gorgeous space that can grow with the baby." Everyone was most impressed with the free-form boat mobile hanging from the ceiling. What do you think about Dan's design? , Episode 8 Design

Another thing I love about this room is the art — particularly the whales. This is Dan’s interpretation of a Cape Cod inspired, nautical-themed nursery. When considering how to add your own personal touch, add a painting to the wall. If your bravery stops short of free-hand painting, consider painting a canvas (which only costs a few dollars including the paints) or even easier, use wall decals.
