Staging is done for the purpose of selling a home. The idea of staging is to highlight the homes best selling features and appeal to a wide range of potential buyers – in order to get it sold! As a result, the current homeowner’s personal affects (i.e. photos, mementos and collections) and all clutter should be removed. Certain decor may which appeal to a narrow group of buyers should also be removed and replaced with a more general style.
Why do you need a staging professional to do this? Well, aren’t you attached to your home – the one place where you can just be yourself? It is difficult to see your home as real estate, but that is the bottom line when it’s time to put it on the market. In my own experience as a home seller, I had to go through what you will go through — the stress related to selling your home quickly as well as having strangers walk through your home while critiquing your decor and personal preferences. When buyers enter your home, they want to imagine how they will live in your house. Unless your home is staged to help potential buyers’ imaginations come alive, they may pass on your home. How many times have you watched an HGTV show to see someone enter a house for sale only to comment, “Oh…I don’t like this furniture” or “This paint color is terrible.” They just can’t see beyond what is in front of them. It is difficult to detach yourself from your home even though you know you will be leaving it. Let a staging professional help you!

It is so easy for a homeowner to overlook clutter that they have lived with for many years. A buyer may find some of the homeowner’s personal belongings distracting and it could hurt a sale. It is always best to hire a stager. Even real estate agents can be too cautious about hurting a homeowner’s feelings. A stager is honest and tactful and won’t harm the realtor and homeowner’s relationship.
