After writing a post a few days ago about mirrors, I thought I should probably expand a bit on using mirrors in your decor. Mirrors serve a couple of purposes. First of all, mirrors are where you check yourself out. Do you need to touch up your makeup? Do you have spinach from your lunch in your teeth? Can you still see the coffee spill on your shirt from this morning’s cup in the car? Although these are important concerns, you should look at what the mirror is reflecting depending on where it is hung. If a mirror reflects a dusty ceiling fan or a blank wall, it’s not giving you its best effort. So, move it…or lose it. Place the mirror so that it reflects a pretty view of the outdoors, an attractive arrangement of flowers, a beautiful art piece, or better yet, place a lamp next to the mirror (just inside the frame) for big drama. A mirror needs to reflect something of beauty at all times – not just when you are looking in!
Another thing to remember: Hang a mirror over something – don’t just leave it suspended on an empty wall all by itself. Without an anchor, the mirror will appear to float and look awkward. This is a good rule for art work as well.
DO:
DON’T: FLOAT!
